Extreme Weather Blog for Aug 1

Good evening,

August is set to begin with drenching rain and thunderstorms through the Atlantic Seaboard courtesy of the same system responsible for the heavy rains and floods seen through parts of Colorado and New Mexico during the past few days.

The rain is expected to begin Friday and extend from Louisiana into northern Florida before heading northeast into New England as the weekend progresses. Another thing that will be enhancing how strong these rainfalls can become is moisture that is moving in from both the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean that once it comes in contact with this system can lead to urban flooding and poor visibility increasing the possibility of travel delays through the eastern seaboard.

As the rainy pattern subsides, a warming trend will ensue along bringing an increase in humidity for next week.

Tropics:

The National Hurricane Center continues to investigate a low pressure system located hundreds of miles east of the Leeward Islands as it continues to move west-northwest at nearly 20 mph. The redevelopment of showers and thunderstorms is expected through the day Friday leading to the possible formation of a tropical cyclone which may require watches and warning to be put in effect for the Lesser Antilles.

Enjoy your evening,

Jen Gonzalez
