Extreme Weather Blog for July 22

Good evening,

As we approach midweek the threat of severe thunderstorms will be on the rise as humid air returns to the Great Lakes and Northeast bringing very active storms that will extend from the Ohio Valley into New York.

A cold front that’s approaching the area will fuel the severe weather that is expected to rumble through cities from Cincinnati to Syracuse bringing wind gust exceeding 50 mph as well as torrential downpours that can lead to flooding. The storms are forecast to develop during the afternoon hours and gradually increase in intensity through Wednesday evening before shifting to southeast on Thursday extending from Virginia to the Carolinas.

As the storms diminish cooler and more pleasant weather will be present from the Great Lakes into the Northeast just in time for the weekend.

Tropics:

The National Hurricane Center began issuing advisories for tropical depression #2 which formed earlier today over a thousand miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The system currently has sustained winds of 35 mph and is moving west at 16 mph. No watches or warning have been placed as the system is expected to become a remnant low by Thursday, however, the Lesser Antilles are advised to monitor the progress of this system as it continues to move west.

Enjoy your evening!
