Extreme Weather for Sep 27

Good evening,

Showers and thunderstorms that can at times become severe and include flash flooding will move across the Great Basin most of this weekend as an early season storm makes its way through that region.

Those storms that do become severe will open the door to wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, frequent lightning and a risk of brief tornadoes which can all lead to property damage and power outages as well as low or reduced visibility on the road.

Rainfall amounts are expected to vary by location, however, some places can see up to 2 inches which may lead to flash flooding through portions of Arizona and Utah extending into Las Vegas. The good thing about all this rain is that it will benefit those areas that have been ravaged by drought throughout the West and Southwest in the recent weeks, even though these areas will not include the areas hardest hit by the droughts.
As the second half of the weekend gets underway, showers and thunderstorms will begin to diminish as the system moves further east and becomes weaker. The new work week is expected to begin on a much drier note.

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Jen Gonzalez
