After having been pounded by severe storms that produced
torrential downpours along with several tornadoes, the Midwest is in for a
relief just in time for hundreds of thousands to head back to work and school
after celebrating the unofficial end to the summer.
Severe weather will continue to wreak havoc through this
evening ahead of a cold front that is making its way through the area with the
main threat being frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts and large hail as
well as flooding downpours. A possible tornado or two should also not be
discarded, all of which will greatly slow down the evening commute for the
thousands returning home from the holiday weekend.
The silver lining to all this is that as Tuesday commences,
drier and more comfortable conditions will be in store as the threat for severe
weather moves east taking aim at the Atlantic Seaboard.
Tropics:
The fifth tropical depression of the season has formed in the
southwestern Gulf of Mexico. This system is currently moving across the Bay of
Campeche with maximum sustained winds at 30mph. A tropical storm warning has
been issued for portions of eastern Mexico as rough surf and rip current will extend
along the Mexican coastline. Being so close to land, the system will not have
too much time to develop into anything significant as it continues to move
further west into Mexico.
Enjoy your evening,
Jen Gonzalez
