Summer does not officially end for a couple more weeks, but it
seems as if Mother Nature is in a rush to turn down the dial on the thermometer
as the Northern Plains will be seeing their first frost and snowfall of the
year as early as this Wednesday.
A strong cold front will be moving in from the Canadian
Prairies bringing with it a powerful Arctic high pressure system that promises
to decrease temperatures by up to 25 degrees below the normal average for this
time of year. A high accumulation of snow is not expected, however, frost will
be of utmost concern especially for crops and vegetation. By the end of the
work week, the cold front will push into the Great Lakes, however, a big dip in
temperatures is not expected as the warm waters of the Great Lakes will provide
for warmer temperatures.
Before this cold front makes it to the Great Lakes area a low
pressure system will be moving across that region as well as the central
portion of the nation bringing an outbreak of severe weather that is expected to
rumble through from Nebraska to Michigan and south into Kansas.
Severe weather is expected to kick off Tuesday evening with
large hail, strong winds and possible tornadoes threatening major cities including
St. Louis, Kansas City, Detroit and Cleveland among many others. Many issues
are expected to arise with travel commutes in and around these cities through
at least Thursday, therefore those living or visiting in these areas are asked
to be on alert and head all warnings and take all necessary precautions.
Enjoy your evening,
Jen Gonzalez
