Extreme Weather for Dec 12

Good evening,

A vicious storm, and one of the strongest to hit California in at least half a decade, will dump drenching downpours to areas that have been severely affected by recent droughts, however, this system will also bring damaging winds, flooding and mudslides through the end of this week.

The storm, one of several to move over the western coast in recent days, has the potential of becoming the biggest rain producer for the Golden State in nearly a decade as this system will roll onshore with an abundance of moisture. An end to the drought that has been plaguing this region for far too long is good news to those who have been affected but too much, too fast will bring about negative conditions that will dampen any good brought by it.

Winds exceeding 60 mph along with flooding from over half a foot of rain will cause power outages due to downed trees and power lines as well as travel disruptions both by air and ground which may lead many to cancel or rethink any outdoor activity as the flooding and strong winds can cause reduced visibility prompting motorists to be on alert. Another concern will be that of mudslides that may become all too common due to the heavy rain expected, therefore property owners should also be vigilant to what Mother Nature has in store.

Enjoy your evening,

Jen Gonzalez
