Extreme Weather for Dec 9

Good evening,

A major storm will take aim at the Northeast the next couple of days accompanied by heavy downpours, significant snow, gusty winds, flooding and for many interior locations, a wintry mix.

The mid-Atlantic will be the first to feel the wrath of the storm with cold temperatures and up to 6 inches of snow extending well into Albany, NY early Tuesday morning. A s the day progresses, the system will move inland as well as further north where upwards of 12 inches of snow are possible. Such heavy amounts of snow may produce downed trees and power lines resulting in power outages, therefore those living or traveling in and out of these areas should expect to experience heavier than normal commute times.

Closer to the coast, the main concern with this system will be flooding due to heavy downpours which will extend from Delaware into southern New England through Tuesday evening. The heavy rain coupled with strong, gusty winds will produce poor visibility disrupting travel through these areas as well. By midweek, gusty winds will continue for part of the mid-Atlantic with a wintry mix impacting the Northeast and New England on Thursday.

Enjoy your evening,

Jen Gonzalez
