Good afternoon,
2015 will commence with a very rare and historic surprise
for those in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas as snow is set to make in
appearance by the end of the week.
A storm system that is accompanied by very cold temperatures
and snow will move into California as the year comes to an end before wreaking
havoc through the central Rockies and
Plains. In these areas, frosty and freezing temperatures will bring concerns
for the agricultural community as overnight lows are expected to dip to the mid
20s to low 30s New Year’s Eve. Another concern will be the snow which is
expected to cause slippery roads for commuters and air travel delays in and out
of many major airports through the southwest.
As this system exits the Rockies, it will move into the four
corners region as well as Nevada where up to 3 inches of snow are expected to
fall in Las Vegas by the first day of the new year, possibly making it the
snowiest day on record for that area. Anyone traveling to and from Las Vegas
should expect to see travel delays, especially during the New Year’s Eve
celebrations. Also, anyone with outdoor plans will have to bundle up as highs
for the southwest and desert areas are not expected to surpass the 30s.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy 2015!
Jen Gonzalez
