Extreme Weather for Jan 25

Good evening,

The work week will begin with possible blizzard like conditions that will extend into New England as an Alberta Clipper that originated in western Canada and has moved into the lower 48 thus affecting the Midwest this weekend.

The system, which is expected to reach the mid-Atlantic by Monday, will bring with it hazardous winds along with a swath of snow that promise to delay travel all through the northeastern states. This system is expected to rapidly pick up strength causing the highest disruptions from Rhode Island into Maine with snow extending as far down as New York, all of which can see 1-3 inches of snow with certain areas receiving up to half a foot.

The clipper system will take place in conjunction with a decrease in temperatures both of which will bring risky wintry driving conditions mainly during the rush hour commute. Another hazard to keep in mind will be the winds which are forecast to gust up to 40 mph with temperatures barely making it past the single digits. There is a possibility that the storm may stall upon reaching the Boston area, in which case it may prolong the amount of snow and gusty winds along the coastal mid-Atlantic.

A safe and happy weekend!
