Good evening,
Millions will be bracing for impact as a monster of a storm
takes aim at New York City and the New England area starting this evening.
The blizzard, one of the most severe in many years, is
forcing government agencies to declare a state of emergency through many major
cities throughout the Northeast as hazardous conditions bring about complete
white outs, power outages, excessive winds and in some areas a complete halt to
travel activities. Areas from New Jersey to Boston and even Portland, Maine
should brace for the worst of the storm with 12 to 36 inches of snow possible
through these locales.
Local authorities spent the weekend warning residents about
the forthcoming crippling storm as well as its potential to wreak havoc and
urged everyone to stock up on all necessary and emergency supplies. Such was
the case that hundreds of supermarkets and convenience stores woke up to mainly
empty shelves Monday morning as hundreds of thousands heeded to the advice
given.
Conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate as of Monday
evening, with wind gusts near hurricane force in some areas along with snow
drifts of nearly 10 feet. Motorists are also being warned of the risk of
becoming stranded as visibility can at times be reduced to zero.
Due to the severity of this system, power outages, travel delays
and cancellations along with the closure of hundreds of schools, are expected
to last well into the week despite an improvement in conditions starting
Tuesday evening.
Stay safe!
