Extreme Weather for Feb 17th

Good evening,

It seems as if old man winter isn’t giving up anytime soon. After battling one snowstorm after another the past few weeks, another storm system is expected to develop across the mid-Atlantic before aiming towards the Northeast and New England Tuesday.

The snow is expected to blanket areas from the Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic through this evening before extending from Virginia into the nation’s capital early tomorrow where travel disruptions are expected as hundreds of thousands return to work and school after the holiday weekend. The snowstorm will continue to track east and by Tuesday afternoon it will spread across the Northeast and New England area where up to half a foot of snow is possible.

And as if the snow wasn’t enough, another blast of arctic air will descend upon the Midwest and Northeast by midweek bringing air cold enough to produce subzero temperatures. Millions from Chicago to the Big Apple will be in for brutal conditions and record breaking lows which will begin on Wednesday for those located in the Midwest and head to the Northeast by Thursday.

Despite the fact that strong winds are not expected, those throughout the Midwest and Northeast are being asked to take all necessary precautions as such conditions can be dangerous and life threatening. Extra layers of clothing will definitely be necessary just as pets and plants will have to be brought inside.

By the weekend, the bitter temperatures will move further away from these regions allowing for more moderate temperatures albeit still below normal for this time of year.

Stay Safe!
