Extreme Weather for May 19

Good evening,

Umbrellas and rain jackets will be put to good use through the Central Plains over the next few days as heavy showers and thunderstorms begin to develop by midweek.

A warm front moving north will provide a high incidence of moisture to move across the area forcing rounds of showers and thunderstorms first across portions of Texas, Colorado and New Mexico this evening with large hail and damaging winds along with rain possibly exceeding over an inch per hour, therefore, flash flooding is possible especially in low lying areas. On Tuesday, the system will then push into Kansas, Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle with low visibility and travel delays as the downpours are expected to become heavy.

This system will not only be accompanied by plenty of moisture, but it will also be a slow moving one therefore, the possibility of flash flooding will remain high until at least Wednesday. Those living or traveling in these areas should take all the necessary precautions to protect lives and properties and to drive safely as losing control of any vehicle becomes easier as rain accumulations become higher.

Enjoy your evening,

Jen Gonzalez
