Good evening,
The unofficial start to the summer will commence with rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms extending from Texas into Kansas and bringing with it a risk of flooding as over a half of foot of rain may be possible in some locations. The reason for all the rain is due to an abundance of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico that will mix with a storm making its way out of the Southwest and lasting through the holiday weekend.
Many areas throughout the southern Plains have been pounded with a higher than average amount of rainfall so far this year. Amount that has saturated the ground enough already but that will be exacerbated as the expected rainfall will cause rivers to swell and overflow. Some cities in Texas have received over 3 inches of rain since Monday of this week and Oklahoma City has far exceeded its average monthly total as over 13 inches have fallen since this month began.
Those residing through the southern Pains will hopefully pack the patience needed to deal with rounds of daily showers as the soggy pattern is expected to remain through the end of May.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
