Good evening,
As if the catastrophic floods of this past weekend weren't enough, Texas and Oklahoma will continue to face a threat of strong storms through midweek. Damaging winds along with isolated tornadoes and more flooding will remain on the forecast with the strongest storms expected over north-central TX and southern OK.
This time last year, nearly half of the state of Texas was under and extreme drought yet, enough rain has fallen this month alone where their extreme drought status has completely vanished. Unfortunately, many roads remain closed or inaccessible due to the severity of the recent rainfall. The silver lining, if any, to all this is that the southern Plain will soon be catching a break as the month of June will commence with fewer, less frequent downpours, a pattern that is forecast to remain through the month.
As the week progresses, this system is set to move northeastward bringing severe thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley into the Great Lakes and although the risk of flooding will be much less than that in Texas and Oklahoma, urban flooding is possible as enough rain can fall in just a short amount of hours.
A safe week to all!
Jen Gonzalez
