Extreme Weather for Aug 19

Good evening,

After wreaking havoc through the central portion of the nation, a slow moving system is heading to the mid Atlantic with the promise of very similar weather.

Blinding downpours that in many cases may be accompanied by flash flooding are expected to extend from parts of Kentucky and Tennessee into Virginia and the Carolinas through Tuesday. Those traveling in or around these areas are advised to pack plenty of patience as the morning commute can prove to be a tricky and hazardous one as the downpours can lead to reduced visibility as well as dangerous driving conditions.

This system, which has already dumped over 5 inches of rain over parts of the Midwest, is expected to dump a couple of more as it moves into Tennessee and Kentucky bringing an increased risk of flooding to both areas. Along with the flash flooding, disruptions to outdoor activities and air travel delays will be possible at least through Wednesday.

Tropics:

With the exception of 2 weak and very disorganized systems very far out in the Atlantic, things remain relatively quiet in the tropics. Currently, neither of these systems has a high chance for further development but they will continue to be monitored as they both track west-northwest.

Enjoy your evening,

Jen Gonzalez
