Extreme Weather for Aug 20
Good Evening,
As the Southwest deals with the heavy monsoonal rains, we shift our attention to a few items for Wednesday. The first is the cold front moving through the Northern Rockies, this will be the focus area for scattered t-storms, most should remain below the severe level, with the primary threat being heavy rain and strong wind gust. The second area will be an area of isolated thunderstorms over the Eastern Great Lakes, this area should see damaging winds and heavy rain as the main threat. The third focus area will be along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida, these thunderstorms will be associated with the afternoon heating (sea breeze), however some may contain heavy rain and strong wind gust.
Now on to the Tropics: The Eastern Pacific continues to be busy with yet another storm, soon to be hurricane. However, this evening we can now also talk about the Atlantic, there are currently two areas of concern, the further west area has been given a Moderate Chance for development from the NHC, while the area to the east has been given a Low Chance for development at this time. The western area will need to be watched as it is still over one week away, however indications are that it may have impacts on the United States around Aug 26-28th.
Keep it here we will have more updates on our blog and also feel free to stop by our website for more great weather info.
Have a nice evening,
Meteorologist Joshua Kelly
