Extreme Weather for August 17

Good afternoon,

The Midwest is in for a wet weekend as drenching downpours will move through that area as a slow moving disturbance continues to make its way east.

Many locales through the Midwest were pounded by flooding rain earlier in the week and much of the same will take place this weekend as the heavy showers and thunderstorms that will accompany this system promise to once again bring an increased risk of flooding to areas that have had their fair share in the past few days.

Although severe weather is not expected, cities between Kansas City and Indianapolis should expect to see drenching downpours along with isolated events of gusty winds and possible hail as well as slightly cooler temperatures. As the new work week begins, the disturbance will be impacting the mid Atlantic beginning with West Virginia before extending into Philadelphia, Baltimore and the nation’s capital where the threat for flash flooding will remain.

It is anticipated that showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast for both the Midwest and the Northeast through the second half of the week.

Tropics:

This is the time of year when the ocean waters begin to heat up and wind shear decreases, luckily the tropics remains quiet thus far.

Enjoy your weekend
