After having made landfall near Cabo San Lucas as a strong
category 3, hurricane Odile is headed to the southwestern United States where
it will unleash rounds of heavy rains and flooding downpours starting midweek
and lasting into the weekend.
Flash flooding will be of great concern to cities such as Phoenix,
Las Vegas and Flagstaff among other nearby and surrounding cities and the rain
is expected to help decrease the ongoing droughts that have been gripping the
west this summer. The silver lining to this system is that by the time Odile
reaches the states, it will have weakened considerably reaching the region as a
tropical storm or possibly even a depression with a decrease in threat as the
week progresses.
Thousands of miles away from the eastern coast of the United
States, hurricane Edouard continues to spin in the Atlantic Ocean moving towards
the northeast at 13 mph. Close to becoming a category 3 storm, Edouard is
expected to take a turn to the north and remain far from land with only rough
surf conditions being the main hazard affecting the eastern coast beaches this
weekend.
