The latest hurricane to form in the Pacific promises to
sweep through portions of the Southwest with drenching downpours that will halt
all types of outdoor activities by midweek.
Odile, as it has been named, is expected to strengthen as it
moves up the coast of Baja California before heading into Arizona, New Mexico
and parts of Colorado, Utah, Nevada and southern California with enough
moisture where cities through the Southwest may experience flash and urban
flooding as well as mudslides and dust storms. Unfortunately, it is unlikely
that rain will reach the places that need it most, those that have been plagued
by drought through central and northern California.
Out in the Central Atlantic, Tropical Storm Edouard
continues to gain strength as it tracks northwest at 13 mph with winds at
60mph. This storm continues to be over 1600 miles ENE of the Leeward Islands,
and despite experts forecasting this system to become a hurricane by late Sunday,
no watches or warnings are yet in effect.
Happy Saturday!
