Good afternoon,
It will be looking more like January than November throughout
certain parts of the nation as a winter storm is set to move through the
Rockies and central states this weekend with up to a foot of snow in some
locations.
The storm, which developed over the Pacific Ocean, has produced
ice and heavy snow through portions of Oregon and Idaho and will take aim at
Wyoming and Colorado as it continues to track east. This weekend will bring
rough travel conditions from Denver to Chicago leading to hundreds of delayed
or cancelled flights as copious amounts of snow are expected at major airports
in and around these areas. Ground travel will also be tricky as slippery roads
and whiteout conditions can be seen through the main interstates connecting
these cities and states.
By the second half of the
weekend, the Plains and Midwest will receive a milder version of the wintry mix
as the storm heads into those locations Saturday into Sunday. Light to moderate
snow will stretch from Omaha to Des Moines and into Wichita before heading into
areas of Chicago and Detroit by late Sunday evening. By the start of the work
week, the storm will come in contact with moisture moving in from the Gulf of
Mexico gaining enough energy to bringing a mix of rain and snow along with
frigid temperatures extending from the mid-Atlantic into the Northeast.
Enjoy your weekend!
Jen Gonzalez
