Extreme Weather for Nov 18

Good evening,

The coldest air to so far make an appearance this year has been targeting the Plains and Midwest the past couple of days as it aims to head into the eastern United States by midweek.

Overnight temperatures are expected to plummet into the teens and single digits with some locations dipping closer to zero and daytime highs not surpassing the low 20s. These very frigid temperatures will be accompanied by a lake-effect snow event that will sweep through the Great Lakes with up to 5 inches of snow per hour along with lightning and gusty winds that may lead to blinding conditions at times.

Those who plan or must travel by either road or air are being advised to do so with caution and to check with airports and airline carriers as major travel delays will occur through major roads and airports across the nation as reduced visibility will almost be certain.

By daybreak Wednesday, the arctic conditions will sweep into the Northeast with daytime highs expected to stay near or below freezing with northern winds that will make temperatures feel as if they’re in the teens. By the second half of the week the digits on the thermometer are expected to slightly increase and albeit still cold, temperatures will at least not dip to the single digits.

Enjoy your evening,
Jen Gonzalez
