As one of the
busiest travel weeks commences, rounds of severe weather are forecast to rumble
through portions of the south accompanied by several risks including hail,
strong winds and possible tornadoes.
Warm, moist
air will move in north from the Gulf of Mexico and as it comes in contact with
a storm system approaching the area, thunderstorms will develop beginning
Friday evening and lasting almost all day Saturday. Western and Central Texas
will be the first to feel the wrath of this system with the greatest risk being
the concern for flash and urban flooding. As the first half of the weekend
begins, the threat for severe weather will shift east extending into Dallas
into portions of Louisiana.
Travel
delays, especially across the Gulf coast, may be possible as the combination of
large hail, strong winds and flash flooding along with tornadoes will lead to
tricky and hazardous air and road travel conditions. By Sunday, the storms will
move into the lower Mississippi Valley and extend east from northern FL into
the Carolinas. Strong wind gusts will be possible on Sunday, but the major
concern for the aforementioned areas this day will be heavy rain and the
flooding associated with it as the severe weather risk begins to wane in time
for the new week.
Enjoy your evening,
Jen Gonzalez
