Good afternoon,
Mother
Nature seems to be a bit confused lately. After slamming the Northeast with a
brutal snow storm that dumped over 6 feet of snow in some locations,
temperatures will briefly return to digits more common during the spring then
the autumn.
As the new and
short work week begins, those in the northern portion of the country will give
their snow boots and gloves a break as raincoats and umbrellas will become a
necessity since heavy rains will move through the area. Along with the rain, a
welcome relief from all the winter like conditions will also be seen as the
digits on the thermometer will shoot north to the 50 and 60 degree mark with
some reaching the warmer 70s.
However, these warmer temperatures will also
be accompanied with flooding concerns especially in the areas that have been
hit hard with snow. The increase in temperatures will trigger the snow to melt
and with the amount that some areas have received, it is possible to see the
equivalent of up to 6 inches of rain on the ground making flooding the new
threat to target these heavily hit areas.
By the middle of the week, the return of cold
air will be back on the forecast as a new storm system moves in from the
northern Plains along with more lake-effect snow that may bring a few more
inches of snow to the Northeast.
Have a pleasant weekend!
Jen Gonzalez
