Good evening,
As the busiest travel day of the year approaches, so does a
winter storm that promises to test the patience of hundreds of thousands of
travelers looking forward to family gatherings.
Rain and heavy snow will be affecting travel through all
major cities from the nation’s capital to
Boston as a winter storm makes its way through the east coast and the Appalachians. Half a foot to a foot of snow is forecast to extend from Virginia into New England with some locations possibly exceeding 12 inches in totality beginning Wednesday evening. As the system tracks further north, it is expected to rapidly increase in intensity leading to blowing and drifting snow through portions of New England into Thanksgiving morning. Those with travel plans, especially when driving, are asked to take all necessary precautions to ensure a safe commute and prompt arrival to their destination.

Those in the Midwest will also be in for some risky travel
weather as snow along with strong winds and plummeting temperatures will begin
to move through the region just in time for Thanksgiving. The week began with a
couple of inches of snow around the Great Lakes and surrounding areas, snow
that is now expected to become icy as temperatures plunge down to the teens and
20s. Just as in the east, travel will be tricky as not only are roads expected
to be covered in ice but the gusty winds will lead to hazardous air and road
travel conditions through Wednesday evening.
