Extreme Weather for Jan 4th

Good afternoon,

2015 came in like a bucket of cold water for many parts of the nation as a swath of snow and cold air that wreaked havoc through southern California and the Southwest has continued to track east taking aim at many other states.

The Northern Plains and the Northeast are the next ones in line for frigid temperatures, heavy snow and hundreds of travel delays. Starting Monday evening, snow will target major cities from Sioux Falls, SD to Detroit, MI with enough snow to reduce visibility to dangerous conditions in a short amount of time. Motorist driving through interstates throughout these states are being warned of the conditions and advised to not only drive with caution, but to also pull over if need be as white-out conditions will be more than likely.

As the day begins Tuesday, the blanket of snow is expected to move further east with several inches across PA before extending further north into southern New England. Cities from Philadelphia into Boston can see enough snow to delay travel through major airports and highways up and down the eastern coast.

Aside from the snow expected from the Northern Plains into the Northeast, another major concern will be the temperatures as this system will also be accompanied by frigid digits. Daytime highs will struggle to reach the teens across the Plains and Midwest as the week commences, but as this system moves east, another blast of frosty air will move in bringing high temperatures that will barely go above zero. As for the Northeast, once the storm clears, cold temperatures are expected to linger for a couple more of days.

Wishing everyone a safe weekend!
