Extreme Weather for March 24

Good evening,

With the start of spring comes the threat for severe weather and that threat continues to loom for the central portion of the nation as severe weather is expected to make an appearance beginning Monday evening into Tuesday across the south-central Plains.

Strong thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusty winds will erupt through Kansas Monday evening then into northwestern Missouri before the latter part of the night. Cities such as Topeka and Wichita as well as Kansas City should prepare for wind  gusts exceeding 50 mph along with the hail mentioned earlier and a light show in the sky. Heading into Tuesday morning, things are expected to be slightly quieter, however, that will all change by early afternoon as parts of Oklahoma and Missouri will see the potential for more severe weather.

The storms are anticipated to be more organized and damaging then the ones from the previous evening with larger hail, heavy rainfall and winds surpassing the 60 mph which may lead to downed trees and power outages. As Tuesday comes to an end, the threat for severe weather will begin to slowly diminish only to make a comeback from central Texas into the Ohio Valley by the middle of the week.

Keep it safe!
