Extreme Weather for April 16

Good evening,

Drenching downpours will continue to be a nuisance for portions of the South which may see flooding straight through the weekend.

Showers and thunderstorms have been frequent throughout the Deep South the past several days as a low pressure system has been slowly making it's way east. Flash and urban flooding has become all too common for many as some areas have seen so much rain since the beginning of April that they have surpassed their monthly total already. Unfortunately, more flooding is possible as extra rain can cause streams, bayous and low lying areas to rise rapidly with locations from Houston to Tallahassee being under the radar for the greatest risk through Sunday.

As we get closer to the weekend, heavy downpours will extend from the Florida panhandle into Charlotte, NC as the system continues to track east before shifting to the north where it will then affect the Ohio Valley with up to 3 inches of rain in some areas. The downpours and flooding may at times lead to travel delays as poor visibility will force some roads to be closed and flights to be either cancelled or delayed.

A safe week to all!
