Good evening,
As a low pressure system continues to move through the Gulf coast, heavy showers will make their way across the southeastern states by the middle of the week bringing a threat of severe thunderstorms and flooding that may halt travel for hundreds of thousands.
The downpours, which are expected to extend from southern FL north into portions of the Atlantic seaboard, will dump up to 2 inches of rain in some locations in a matter of hours forcing many to not only cancel or postpone any outdoor activities but also to possibly seek alternate routes as roads may become too flooded for regular usage. Many cities throughout the south have received sufficient rain the past several weeks that many rivers are constantly being monitored as they are very close to their flood stage levels. Another concern for those in the southeast will face is that of thunderstorms that are capable of producing hail along with wind gusts so strong that trees can be uprooted leaving thousands of individuals without power.
The silver lining to those affected by this system is that as the week progresses, the weather will gradually begin to clear with only sporadic showers expected Thursday and drier weather through the weekend.
Enjoy your evening,
Jen Gonzalez
