Good afternoon,
Umbrellas and rain coats will be put to good use at least until the middle of the work week as locally heavy storms will extend from the Midwest into the Northeast as an influx of moisture makes its way through those regions.
Flooding and travel disruptions will be the main concerns tagging along with this system especially during the afternoon and evening commute when the downpours are expected to be strongest. It's possible for some locations to receive several inches of rain on Tuesday with rounds of thunderstorms possibly becoming severe at times.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to slightly diminish as the work week progresses before making a comeback depending on the influx of moisture moving in from the Gulf of Mexico.
Out in the tropics, the Gulf of Mexico may give birth to the next possible tropical storm of the season as a system located in that area is expected to gain strength as it moves onshore into Texas bringing unwanted and unneeded torrential downpours that will open the door to more extreme flooding.
The system, which if it gathers enough strength would become Tropical Storm Bill, is expected to make landfall on Tuesday bringing rough surf and strong rip currents as well as waterspouts and tornadoes through the southern Gulf states. Between Tuesday and Thursday, areas from northeastern Texas and portions of Louisiana and Oklahoma will experience the heaviest rain along with the highest risk of flooding as copious amounts of rainfall will be possible.
By the end of the week, the system will be moving into and affecting the northeast.
Enjoy your week!
