Extreme Weather for June 23

Good evening,

Mother Nature will continue to turn up the dial on the thermometer as a strong heat wave continues to scorch the south as high pressure coupled with below average rainfall continues to dominate the area.

During the past week, temperatures have been up to 15 degrees above their normal average this time of year with digits sitting anywhere between the 90s to 100 degrees. As the work week progresses, "feels like" temperatures will feel well into the triple digits with the full spectrum of heat waves extending from the Deep South into portions of the mid-Atlantic.

The heat wave will be shattering records during the next few days, therefore, anyone with outdoor plans needs to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Rainfall will make an appearance over the weekend bringing a much needed decrease in temperatures.

Severe storms will pack a punch to the Northeast on Tuesday threatening millions of people with dangerous winds and flooding downpours as a cold front cuts across the area. Locations from Charleston, WV into Maine will be pounded with blinding downpours, hail and winds exceeding 60mph with the possibility of a couple tornadoes developing. Another threat to accompany these storms is that of flash flooding especially after amount of rain Bill dumped over the area last week.

By midweek, drier air and lower humidity will dominate through the Northeast allowing for enjoyment of outdoor activities. Taking advantage is a must as thunderstorms are expected to return as the work week concludes.

Enjoy your evening,

Jen Gonzalez
