Good evening,
The month of June kicked off with soggy and unseasonably cooler conditions for the Northeast and New England courtesy of the same system that brought historic flooding to Texas last week.
Parts of the Northeast, such as New Jersey and Staten Island, received over 5 inches of rain in just a matter of hours leading to flash flooding and wreaking havoc through the Monday morning commute. The pattern, which is expected to last through the end of the week, will not only dampen outdoor plans but it will also cause road and air travel delays as heavy downpours will be responsible for reduced visibility as well as continued flash and urban flooding.
As part of this system, the jet stream will take a swing down south bringing cooler conditions that will extend from Baltimore into New England where temperatures are expected to fall up to 15 degrees below their normal average for this time of year. As we welcome the weekend, the dry conditions will persist along with mild temperatures and low humidity.
The 2015 Atlantic Hurricane season also began today and it did so on a quiet note. Despite having produced its first named storm back in May, this season is forecast to be a rather below normal one, with 6-11 named storms of which 3-6 could possibly become hurricanes. However, just because this season is expected to be quiet in comparison to others, we must not get comfortable as all it only takes one system to cause great damages throughout our communities and environment.
Enjoy your evening,
Jen Gonzalez
